The festive season can take a lot
out of you, and your skin. All the sugar, alcohol and late nights can leave
your skin acne prone and feeling yuck. On top of that, it’s so easy to forget
to wash your face after a long night out (especially of makeup), and skincare
routines often get pushed to the bottom of your list of priorities. When
things finally slow down after the new year, you might find yourself waking up
one morning to a fresh crop of pimples or scaly dry patches on your face!
WATER. Your skin is an organ, and all skin cells are made up of water. That’s why dehydration often leaves us with flakey skin and a “stretched” feeling across the face. It also makes our skin over compensate for the lack of moisture by producing more sebum, which is our natural oil, produced by the pores in our face. An increase in sebum production will more often than not lead to acne.
So what is the best way to add water
to the skin?
Use a moisturiser within at
least two minutes of leaving the bath or shower. The skin is still porous and
is vulnerable to products that are applied following the bath or shower,
allowing the moisture to be better absorbed.
Drink more water! Many people often report that by increasing their water
intake, their skin has a more radiant glow. Those who suffer from acne have
reported the same results. Nothing will happen overnight, but even a good
couple of weeks of increasing water intake should be enough for you to see how
hydration affects your own skin. In addition to the benefits it provides
acne-wise, drinking a litre of water in the morning often gets rid of those under
eye bags from late nights out (I can personally attest to this one!)
Masks are an all-natural way to lock in moisture and keep acne at bay. Try SkinB5 Skin
Purifying Mask, or make your own!
Keep up the routine!! Whether it’s toning, cleansing and moisturising or simply
splashing some cold water on your face in the morning, don’t forget to keep on
doing what you, and your skin, is used to doing throughout the silly season and
the new year. If you feel as though your skin needs something extra to keep the
breakouts at bay, try something like Skin B5’s Acne Control Tablets. They are
great for fighting blemishes and relieving stress and are all-natural, so you
don’t need to worry about any nasties entering your system.
Hopefully these tips allow you to have a fantastically blemish-free start to the new year!
